Kathmandu. Lawmakers can now appoint personal secretaries after a cabinet decision. A meeting of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday decided to allow lawmakers to appoint personal secretaries.

Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam informed that the Council of Ministers has amended the schedule of the Federal Parliament Members’ Salary and Facilities Act 2073 to allow lawmakers to appoint personal secretaries.

The facilities that lawmakers’ personal secretaries used to receive earlier will now be continued. The interim government led by Sushila Karki had earlier decided to withdraw the facility of personal secretaries for lawmakers.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs had proposed to amend the schedule to continue the facility of personal secretaries. The proposal was presented at the Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday.

After the amendment is published in the gazette, lawmakers will be able to appoint personal secretaries. Lawmakers will be able to appoint personal secretaries with facilities similar to those of branch officials.
