Amman. Jordan’s air defense system intercepted eight missiles fired from Iran on Thursday morning, the country’s government media reported.
According to Jordan’s armed forces, the missiles were heading towards the country. The debris from the intercepted missiles fell in various locations, but no human casualties or material damage were reported, according to the government news agency Petra.
However, Iran’s military claimed that it had targeted US military assets in Jordan. Iran’s government news agency IRNA and Press TV reported that Iran had launched a drone attack on the US military communication system and fuel storage facility at Al-Azraq airport.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) has not commented on Iran’s claim. The claims have not been independently verified, according to CNN.
Meanwhile, security alertness has been increased in other Gulf countries. Bahrain’s Interior Ministry reported that sirens had been sounded and citizens were urged to take shelter in safe areas.
Kuwait’s army general staff reported that its air defense system was confronting hostile drone attacks. Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that US military bases in Kuwait were also targeted.
