Kathmandu. After a remarkable performance in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Cape Verde’s experienced goalkeeper Bozhinhal has stated that his life has changed completely after the tournament.
In an interview with American television network CBS, he said that wherever he goes now, people recognize him, and he can no longer walk on the streets without being noticed.
"I can no longer walk on the streets without being recognized. My life has changed completely after the World Cup," he said.
Bozhinhal considers the biggest achievement of the World Cup to be that his country, Cape Verde, has gained recognition worldwide, rather than his personal fame.
"Today, people all over the world know where Cape Verde is. I am very proud of that," he said.
The 39-year-old goalkeeper, who made a historic performance in the World Cup, plans to play professional football for another year or two. He is currently in talks with various clubs.
"I will choose a club that wants to sign me for my football skills, not for marketing," he clarified.
After the World Cup, Bozhinhal’s popularity has increased exponentially. He currently has 29 million followers on Instagram, making him the most followed goalkeeper in the world.
Cape Verde’s performance in the World Cup was impressive, despite limited resources. Notably, the team was not defeated by either of the finalists, Spain and Argentina, within the stipulated 90 minutes.
Under Bozhinhal’s leadership, Cape Verde established itself as an emerging power in world football, making a competitive game against both powerful teams.
The historic World Cup journey of Cape Verde, written under Bozhinhal’s leadership, will be remembered by football fans for a long time.
