Heavy rainfall across Nepal has caused significant disruptions to major highways and roads, with several areas experiencing blockages due to landslides and floods.
According to the Nepal Police, as of 7 am on Wednesday, roads in several districts, including Sindhupalchok, Ilam, Baglung, Panchthar, and Gorkha, were completely blocked.
The BP Highway, which connects Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli, has been closed from 6 pm to 4 am due to the risk of landslides and floods. However, vehicles will be allowed to operate from 4 am to 6 pm.
In Makwanpur, the Kanti Lokpath has been closed at night due to safety concerns, while in Ilam, the Mechi Highway has been blocked due to landslides.
Alternate Routes Available
Although the roads are blocked, alternate routes are available in some areas. In Sindhupalchok, the Arniko Highway has been blocked due to landslides, but vehicles can take a detour through other routes.
In Baglung, the Kaligandaki Corridor has been blocked due to landslides, while in Panchthar, the Ranke Ravi Bhedetar road has been blocked due to landslides.
Police Urge Caution
The police have urged citizens to exercise caution while traveling and to check the road conditions before embarking on their journey. The risk of landslides and floods is still high, and the police are working to clear the blocked roads.
