Heavy Rain Causes Flooding and Landslides, Disrupting Major Highways in Nepal

Continuous rainfall has caused flooding and landslides in various parts of Nepal, disrupting major highways and affecting daily life.

According to the Nepal Police, several major highways were affected by the floods and landslides as of Friday morning. Some roads were completely blocked, while others were open for one-way traffic only.

In Koshi Province, the Ilam Municipality-9 Rajduwali section of the Mechi Highway was completely blocked due to continuous rainfall. An alternative route was, however, operational.

In Bhojpur, the Bokhim section of the Mid-Hill Highway was open for one-way traffic only due to flooding. An alternative route was also in use.

Bagmati Province was the most affected, with several major highways disrupted. The Khurkot-Nepalthok-Kabhre Bhanjyang section of the highway was closed for all types of vehicles from Thursday evening due to the risk of flooding.

The Hetauda-Bhimphedi-Bagmati-Lalitpur (Kantipath) section of the highway was also closed due to the risk of flooding and landslides. However, one-way traffic was operational from Bhimphedi to Lalitpur.

In the same district, the Bakaiya section of the Kantipath was completely blocked due to a landslide. The Bhote Koshi section of the Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok was also completely blocked due to a landslide.

In Gandaki Province, the Annapurna section of the Nayapul-Ghandruk highway in Kaski was open for one-way traffic only due to continuous rainfall.

In Baglung, the Kathakhola section of the Mid-Hill Highway was also open for one-way traffic only due to landslides.

In Lumbini Province, the Panini section of the Saljhandi-Dhorpatan highway in Arghakhanchi was completely blocked due to landslides.

In Gulmi, three sections of the highway were affected due to landslides. The Kaligandaki section of the Kaligandaki Corridor was open for one-way traffic only.

The police have urged the public to exercise caution while traveling on affected roads and to seek information about road conditions from concerned authorities before embarking on a journey.
