Former President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav has stated that individuals who do not comprehend the essence of democracy are currently in power.

At the book launch of ‘Chakraprasad Bastola: Baudhikta Ra Vidroh’ in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he expressed his concerns about the current state of governance.

Objecting to the Finance Minister’s statement that federalism should not be implemented, former President Yadav said that such expressions could push the country backward.

‘In my opinion, the current administration is comprised of individuals who do not understand the essence of democracy,’ he said. ‘Whether it’s the Constitution or not, the Finance Minister’s statement that federalism should be abolished could reopen Pandora’s box and revive the Rana regime’s ideology, posing a threat to the country’s progress.’

Former President Yadav also expressed his disappointment that scholars who have worked in international organizations and are expected to bring about economic and social transformation in the country are opposing federalism.

Federalism and Its Implications

‘It is unfortunate that scholars who have worked in organizations like the UNDP and have acquired higher education, whom we expect to bring about a paradigm shift, are opposing federalism,’ he said. ‘Federalism is intertwined with many aspects, so it cannot be taken lightly.’

Highlighting the significance of federalism, former President Yadav emphasized the need to protect the achievements made so far and move forward.
