Kathmandu. Continuous rainfall has caused floods and landslides, resulting in the complete blockage of 8 highways across the country, while 6 highways are open to one-way traffic only, according to the Nepal Police.
The Mechi Highway at Rajduali in Ilam Municipality-9 is blocked, affecting traffic movement on the Jhapa-Taplejung road section. However, alternative routes are being used for transportation in the area.
The BP Highway has been closed due to the risk of potential floods. Similarly, the Kanti Lokpath has been completely blocked due to landslides.
Affected Highways
Other highways affected by floods and landslides include the Arniko Highway in Sindhupalchok, the Salabhandi-Dhorpatan road in Arghakhanchi, and the Rudraveni road in Gulmi.
Meanwhile, one-way traffic is being allowed on the Madhya Pahadi Highway in Bhojpur, the Bhimfedhi section of the Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur, the Nayapul-Ghandruk road in Kaski, the Madhya Pahadi Lokmarg in Baglung, and the Kaligandaki Corridor road in Gulmi.
The police have urged travelers to inquire about the condition of the roads before embarking on their journeys.
