Kathmandu. The Consumer Awareness Campaign Nepal has drawn the government’s attention to protecting consumer rights.
The campaign team, led by President Krishna Prasad Bhandari Marcel, met with Chief Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki and submitted a memorandum with suggestions to ensure good governance in the commodity and service market and protect the rights of consumers.
President Bhandari congratulated Chief Secretary Karki on his appointment to the high-ranking position in the civil service and presented the campaign’s annual souvenir, along with institutional suggestions for good governance in the commodity and service market.
The campaign has suggested that the government bring a timely festival-targeted work plan, considering the new budget’s tax provisions, the upcoming small and big festivals from the month of Shrawan, and the fluctuating prices of petroleum products due to international reasons.
Similarly, the campaign has drawn the attention of the government to the immediate need to amend the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, as the government has prepared to make 166 laws in the current fiscal year 2083-84 as the year of law reform and construction.
Along with President Bhandari, the campaign’s Vice-President Rohit Dahal, General Secretary Chintamani Parajuli, and member Murari Basti met with Chief Secretary Karki and drew the attention of other regulatory bodies of the government to the issues related to consumer rights.
In the same vein, the team met with Director-General Motiram Sapkota and Director Anil Kiranti of the Department of Commerce, Supplies, and Consumer Protection and drew their attention to the activities being carried out on consumer rights issues.
