A BBC commentator made a mistake when identifying a celebrity in the stands during the World Cup Final, confusing Pharrell with A$AP Rocky.

The error occurred about 15 minutes into the match between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium, when cameras showed Pharrell sitting in the stands.

BBC play-by-play commentator Guy Mowbray attempted to identify him, saying ‘I think that is AKA Rocky’ before correcting himself, ‘Or A$AP Rocky, sorry.’

A$AP Rocky was actually seated in the same suite, alongside Rihanna, while rapper Future and New York Knicks star Jalen Brunson were also in attendance.

Pharrell, wearing a backward cap and shades, seemed unaware of the mistake, but viewers quickly pointed it out online.

Some found the mistake amusing, with Mowbray’s use of ‘AKA Rocky’ and his confident but incorrect identification of Pharrell as the funniest aspects.

The stands were filled with A-listers, including President Trump, Tom Cruise, and the Beckham family, which may have contributed to Mowbray’s mistake.

Spain ultimately won the match 1-0 in extra time, capturing the World Cup championship.
