Six ministers from the CPN-UML have submitted their resignations to the Bagmati Province Government, effective immediately.
The ministers, who are all members of the CPN-UML, submitted their resignations to Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya on Tuesday, citing the party’s decision and the current political situation.
According to a letter sent by CPN-UML Bagmati Province Parliamentary Party leader Jhakku Prasad Subedi, the ministers resigned in accordance with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal.
The ministers who resigned include Madhusudan Poudel, Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Forest and Environment; Dr. Dinesh Chandra Devkota, Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development; Jayaram Thapa, Minister of Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport; Bharat Bahadur KC, Minister of Forest and Environment; Kiran Thapa, Minister of Health; and Bindu Shrestha, Minister of Industry, Tourism, Labour and Transport.
Background
The CPN-UML had been supporting the Bagmati Province Government since Ashar 20, 2081. However, after the party withdrew its support, Chief Minister Baniya has been reduced to a minority government.
According to the Constitution, Chief Minister Baniya must now seek a vote of confidence from the Provincial Assembly within 30 days.
