Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have become India’s third most successful pair in international cricket, surpassing the record of 8,000 runs in partnership.

The duo achieved this milestone during the second one-day international match against England at Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens. Although India lost the match by four wickets, Kohli scored his 14th half-century against England, equalling the record of West Indies’ Sir Vivian Richards.

Kohli is now just one half-century behind Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who holds the record for the most 50+ scores against England in one-day internationals. Kohli’s batting average in successful run chases is 91.59, second only to MS Dhoni’s 102.71.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s partnership of 8,021 runs is the third-highest in international cricket for India, behind only Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly, and Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir.

England’s Joe Root remained unbeaten on 99 runs, becoming the first English batsman to score 99 runs in a one-day international match. His batting average in successful run chases is 91.59, second only to MS Dhoni’s 102.71.
