Tamil Nadu’s ruling party, the DMK, has condemned the detention of opposition leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi.

The Tamilaga Vazhvurimai Katchi (TVK) party described Gandhi’s detention and handcuffing as a direct attack on democratic rights.

In a social media post, TVK wrote, ‘Suppressing democracy in the country’s capital is highly condemnable. The Delhi police’s act of detaining and handcuffing opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, who was supporting the peaceful protests of youths in Delhi, is a direct attack on democratic rights. We strongly condemn this.’

The party further stated, ‘Since the implementation of the NEET exam, questions have been raised about its credibility. Students have been under constant mental pressure, and their future dreams are under a big question mark.’

TVK added, ‘Every year, the damage caused to students due to the NEET exam is not being addressed. Therefore, we urge the central government to completely abolish the NEET exam.’

Protest in Delhi

Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Congress MPs had staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

They had staged a sit-in protest outside the Prime Minister’s residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg. Later, they were taken into custody. After a few hours, they were released from the Chhatrasal Stadium.
