Number of Abandoned Children on the Rise in Nepal

A growing number of abandoned children are being found in Nepal, according to government statistics. Over the past four years, 1,451 children have been discovered, with the trend showing an increase each year.

According to the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, citing data from the National Child Rights Council, the number of abandoned children found has been rising steadily. The ‘Children in Statistics 2083’ report reveals that 919 boys and 532 girls have been found abandoned in the past four years.

Of these, 925 children have been reunited with their families, while 522 have been placed in children’s homes and temporary protection centers. The data shows that 297 abandoned children were found in the fiscal year 2078/79, 362 in 2079/80, 383 in 2080/81, and 409 in 2081/82.

No reason has been given for the increase in the number of abandoned children being found.
