In the village of Galyang-9, in the Syangja district of Nepal, a group of young people have taken it upon themselves to clean up their community.

Every week, they dedicate just two hours of their time to cleaning the streets, repairing damaged roads, and clearing clogged drains.

This initiative has not only improved the physical environment of their village but has also brought the community together.

A Community Effort

The idea for this project was born out of a sense of responsibility and a desire to make a positive impact on their community.

According to local resident Kamal Prasad Khanal, the village was facing a number of problems, including damaged roads and clogged drains, which were causing difficulties for the residents.

However, instead of waiting for the local government to take action, the young people of Galyang-9 decided to take matters into their own hands.

They organized themselves into a group and started working together to clean up the village and repair the damaged infrastructure.

A Positive Impact

The impact of this initiative has been significant, not only in terms of the physical improvements to the village but also in terms of the sense of community and social cohesion that it has fostered.

According to Amrita Khanal, a climate activist, this initiative has not only improved the cleanliness of the village but has also helped to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases that can spread during the monsoon season.

She also believes that this initiative has the potential to have a positive impact on the environment and public health in the long term.

A Lesson for Others

The example set by the young people of Galyang-9 is an important one, demonstrating that community members can take ownership of their environment and work together to make a positive impact.

It also highlights the importance of community participation and social responsibility in maintaining public spaces and infrastructure.

As Kamal Prasad Khanal notes, ‘Two hours may not be a lot of time, but when it is dedicated to the community, it can make a big difference.’

The initiative in Galyang-9 is an inspiration to other communities and a reminder that even small actions can have a significant impact when people work together towards a common goal.
