Nepal’s Water Resources Must Be Basis for National Prosperity

Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal Chairman Upendra Yadav has stressed the need to make the country’s water resources the basis for national prosperity.

Speaking at a book launch ceremony on Sunday, Yadav said Nepal is a water-rich country compared to others, but its scientific, planned, and national-interest-based use has not been possible.

Yadav emphasized that water resources should not be limited to just energy production, but should be linked to agriculture, drinking water, irrigation, industry, environmental conservation, and overall economic transformation to create a long-term national strategy.

The book, ‘Nepal’s Water Resources,’ was written by Mahajan Yadav, a water resource expert and politician. The author’s goal in writing the book was to make the policy debate on water resources in Nepal more fact-based and to provide useful reference materials for policymakers, researchers, students, and stakeholders.

According to Yadav, the book provides a detailed analysis of Nepal’s water resource development, from its historical background to future opportunities and challenges, including policy and practical measures to be adopted in the era of climate change.
