Nepali Congress Leader Says Party President Has Become Authoritarian

Nepali Congress leader Prakash Sharan Mahat has accused party president Gagan Kumar Thapa of having a tendency to work alone.

Speaking at an event to commemorate the 44th memorial day of BP Koirala in Kathmandu, Mahat said that even the late Girija Prasad Koirala used to consult with everyone.

‘Girijababu used to ask, I think this is what should be done, what do you think?’ Mahat recalled, ‘But today, everyone has to work alone. The prime minister wants to work alone, the leader of the ruling party wants to work alone.’

Mahat said that Thapa, who became the leader through a special general convention, also has the tendency to work alone.

Nepali Congress’ Ideology

Mahat stated that this is not the ideology of the Nepali Congress. ‘The ideology of the Nepali Congress is not like this. The method of the Nepali Congress is to move forward by uniting everyone. That is the ideology of the Nepali Congress,’ he said.
