Hindu women in Nepal are observing the first Monday of the month of Shrawan by fasting and worshiping Lord Shiva. Many women have visited Shiva temples since morning to offer prayers and worship.
The Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu has seen a large crowd of devotees since morning. To manage the crowd, all four gates of the temple have been kept open since 3 am. According to Tirtha Shrestha, a member of the Pashupati Area Development Fund, arrangements have been made for the safe and convenient darshan of devotees.
Women, in particular, wear green clothing, apply henna, and observe a fast to worship Lord Shiva. Mondays in the month of Shrawan are considered special days for Lord Shiva. Devotees wear red, green, and yellow clothing and offer prayers to Lord Shiva throughout the day.
It is believed that observing a fast on this day fulfills one’s desires. This month, there are four Mondays in Shrawan. Meanwhile, the Bolbam pilgrimage has started in various parts of the country since Monday. Devotees from most districts of Nepal, as well as from neighboring India, have arrived in Kathmandu’s Pashupatinath and Chitwan’s Devghat to participate in the Bolbam fair.
