Nepal Warns of Action Against Unlawful Trade Practices

The government has warned of action against those involved in unlawful trade practices, including the sale of unlabelled, substandard, and adulterated goods.

The Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies has issued a notice stating that action will be taken against those involved in such activities, in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, and the Rules, 2076.

Unlawful Trade Practices

The notice states that various physical markets, as well as digital (online) platforms, have been found to be selling daily essential food, beverages, and clothing items in an unlawful manner.

The ministry and the department have expressed serious concern over the complaints and grievances received regarding such practices.

Consumer Protection

The notice reminds that the Consumer Protection Act, 2075, and the Rules, 2076, ensure the right of consumers to receive quality goods and services.

It also states that activities such as adulteration, smuggling, and sale of substandard goods are punishable and unacceptable.

Directive to Businessmen

In line with the ministry’s policy of maintaining market cleanliness, the department has directed all businessmen involved in production, smuggling, transportation, storage, and sale to fulfill their duties, conditions, and restrictions as per the law.

The ministry and the department have warned that they will take strict action against any businessman who violates the law and compromises the health and rights of consumers.
