The Ministry of Health and Population has signed an agreement with Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited to produce 36 essential medicines locally within the next two years.
Currently, Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited produces 11 essential medicines. The new agreement aims to increase the production of medicines, including those for chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.
The ministry will provide necessary budget and technical support to Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited to ensure the effective implementation of the agreement. The government will also prioritize the use of locally produced medicines in public health institutions.
The agreement is expected to make the government’s procurement process more effective and efficient, and increase the use of locally produced medicines. The quality of the medicines produced by Nepal Pharmaceuticals Limited will be ensured to meet national and international standards.
The ministry believes that this initiative will promote the domestic pharmaceutical industry, increase self-sufficiency in medicine production, reduce dependence on imports, and ensure the availability of quality medicines to the public.
