Nepal suffered a crushing eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Namibia in the first match of the triangular one-day series under the ICC Cricket World Cup League-2.
In the match held in Utrecht, Netherlands, Nepal set a modest target of 158 runs, which Namibia chased down in 37.4 overs, losing just two wickets. Jan Frylinck was the top scorer for Namibia with 78 runs, including eight fours and a six, off 89 balls.
Opener Michael van Lingen contributed 51 runs, including four fours, off 79 balls, while Nicol Loftie-Eaton remained unbeaten on 17 runs. Nandan Yadav and Rohit Paudel took one wicket each for Nepal.
Earlier, Nepal, who lost the toss and batted first, were bowled out for 157 runs in 46.5 overs. Captain Rohit Paudel top-scored for Nepal with 31 runs off 60 balls, while vice-captain Dipendra Singh Airey scored 30 runs. Gulsan Jha added 20 runs, while Karan KC, Aasif Sheikh, and Sompal Kami scored 18, 16, and 15 runs, respectively.
Namibia’s JJ Smit took six wickets, while Jacques Bressel and Bernard Scholtz took two wickets each. Nepal will now face the Netherlands on Ashar 29, 2083.
