Nepal’s recent landslides and floods have severely impacted the country’s transportation network, with seven major highways completely blocked and 12 partially disrupted.
According to the Road Department, 51 roads have been repaired and reopened after being blocked, while efforts are underway to clear the remaining roads.
Blocked Highways
The completely blocked highways include the Kanti Lokpath in Lalitpur, the Mechi Highway in Ilam, the Diktel-Bhojpur road section in Khotang, and the Bhote Koshi Gaunpalika-4 Jurikhola road section in Sindhupalchok.
The Bhote Koshi-2 Kodari road section in Sindhupalchok and the Arniko Highway are also completely blocked.
Partially Disrupted Highways
The Bhojpur Municipality-5 Bokhim road section and the Pasang Lhamu road section in Rasuwa are partially disrupted, with only one-way traffic allowed.
The BP Highway connecting Kavrepalanchok and Sindhuli has been restricted to daytime traffic only, from 4 am to 6 pm, due to the risk of flooding.
The Kanti Lokpath in Makwanpur has also been restricted to daytime traffic only, due to the risk of landslides and flooding.
The Road Department has assured that it is working to clear the blocked roads as soon as possible and has deployed necessary personnel and equipment to the affected areas.
