The government has decided to completely waive the education equality fee and health equality fee. The decision was made during a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, according to government spokesperson Sashmit Pokharel.
As per the decision, the education equality fee and health equality fee will be completely waived off as per Section 18, Subsection 1 of the Economic Act 2083.
The fees, which were announced in the budget for the fiscal year 2083/84, were implemented from Shrawan 1. However, the government faced widespread criticism over the implementation of the fees and later decided to revoke the decision.
According to the Ministry of Finance, the decision to revoke the fees was made after a long consultation between the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. Prime Minister Balen Shah had also announced on Tuesday that the process to scrap the fees would be initiated.
