Gulmi, Shrawan 2. The District Administration Office in Gulmi has released its annual progress report on citizenship, passport, and national ID services for the fiscal year 2082/83.
Chief District Officer Badrinath Gaihre made the report public at a program on Friday, highlighting the office’s achievements and statistics for the past year.
According to the report, the number of new citizenships issued has increased compared to the previous fiscal year, while services for duplicate citizenship, passport recommendations, and national ID registration and distribution have declined.
The office reported that 9,602 new citizenships were issued in the fiscal year 2082/83, up from 9,100 in the previous year. This represents an increase of 502 new citizenships.
Of those who received new citizenships, 9,564 were based on ancestral lineage, 8 on maternal lineage, 1 on orphanage, 25 on marital adoption, 2 on foreign father and Nepali mother, and 11 on non-resident Nepali citizenship.
In contrast, the number of duplicate citizenships issued decreased. While 7,498 duplicate citizenships were issued in the previous fiscal year, only 6,396 were issued in the current year. Additionally, 9 people had their citizenship revoked, and 13 people renounced their citizenship.
Furthermore, 539 minors received minor ID cards.
The report also showed a decline in passport services. While 10,887 passports were recommended in the fiscal year 2081/82, only 8,379 were recommended in the current year. Passport distribution also decreased from 10,373 to 9,507.
Revenue collection from passport services totaled Rs 43.63 million.
National ID services also saw a decline in registration and distribution. While 22,344 people registered for national IDs in the current year, only 16,591 IDs were distributed. To date, 129,329 people have registered for national IDs in the district, and 117,763 have received them.
Chief District Officer Gaihre stated that the office is working to make its services more effective, transparent, and technology-friendly, with the goal of providing easy, quick, and quality services to citizens.
He added that the office will continue to prioritize citizen-friendly services in the future.
