KATHMANDU — Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, has questioned the US commitment to peace, saying that Washington lacks the will to implement diplomatic agreements.
In a series of posts on social media platform ‘X’, Moghadam accused the US of failing to fulfill its diplomatic commitments, saying that its peace efforts are limited to rhetoric only.
‘The US side’s reluctance to fulfill its commitments within 60 days reveals a lack of seriousness, firmness, will, and intention necessary for the success of any agreement,’ he wrote.
Moghadam alleged that the US is not genuinely interested in peace and stability, and that its calls for peace are mere rhetoric.
The Iranian envoy also accused the US of seeking to create instability through any means, rather than genuinely working towards an agreement.
Referring to the US’s past policies towards Iran, Moghadam said that President Donald Trump had destroyed two significant achievements in contemporary diplomatic history.
He cited the US withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and the dispute over the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) mediated by Pakistan as examples.
The Iranian envoy’s comments come at a time when tensions are rising again over the implementation of the MoU mediated by Pakistan.
The US has not yet made any public response to Moghadam’s comments.
