A 58-year-old American man, Kenneth Joseph Cobb, who was jailed in Nepal for paedophilia, has admitted to his crimes in a US court.
Cobb, who was sentenced to nine years in prison in Nepal, appeared in a US federal court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to sexually abusing eight minors in Nepal in 2016.
According to the US Department of Justice, Cobb used force, coercion, and manipulation to abuse the children, and also took photos and videos of them.
The case was investigated by the US Department of Homeland Security and the Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), with assistance from the US Embassy in Kathmandu and the Nepal government.
Cobb was arrested in Nepal in 2015 and was sentenced to nine years in prison for human trafficking and paedophilia. He was released from prison in Nepal last year and was arrested again in the US in September 2022.
The US Department of Justice said that Cobb’s case was part of a larger investigation into paedophilia and human trafficking in Nepal.
Nepal has been a destination for paedophiles and human traffickers in the past, with many cases of abuse and exploitation reported in recent years.
Former Nepal Police officials say that paedophiles often target poor and vulnerable children in Nepal, and use coercion and manipulation to abuse them.
The case against Cobb is a significant development in the fight against paedophilia and human trafficking in Nepal, and highlights the need for continued cooperation between law enforcement agencies in the US and Nepal.
Cobb’s trial is set to begin on October 28, and he faces up to life in prison if convicted.
