Police in Pokhara have arrested two individuals, including an Indian national, on charges of involvement in an online scam.

Vivek Regmi, 26, from Kanchanpur Municipality-12 in Saptari, and Mohammad Yasir, 30, from Karnataka, India, were taken into custody on Friday.

According to the District Police Office in Kaski, the duo was operating an office from a rented house in Prasyang, Pokhara Metropolitan City-5, where they would contact various individuals online, promising them foreign trips and employment opportunities, and then cheat them out of their money.

Scam Uncovered

Police said that Regmi and Yasir had established a company called ‘Oasis Tourism International’ and would sell coupons to people, promising them attractive packages, including foreign trips and gifts.

So far, they have cheated around 30 people out of approximately Rs 966,000 and have also involved 15 unemployed youths in their scam by promising them employment opportunities.

Police have recovered two computers, eight registers, and various documents, six receipts, four stamps, and cut vouchers in the names of different individuals from the duo.
