Russian Attack on Kyiv Causes Damage and Casualties

A Russian attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, has resulted in one death and eight injuries. The attack, which included ballistic missiles, began at around 1:30 am local time and lasted for several hours, with explosions heard throughout the city.

According to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service, the Russian attack caused fires in five districts of Kyiv. Residential buildings, offices, industrial areas, student dormitories, and vehicles were damaged in the attack.

Rescue workers rescued four people from a burning private house in the Svyatoshynskyi district and evacuated residents from a three-story building on fire in the Shevchenkivskyi district. A body was found in a non-residential building where a fire was brought under control.

Firefighters also extinguished fires in the Solomianskyi, Desnianskyi, and Niprskyi districts.

This attack comes as Ukraine faces a shortage of the US-made ‘Patriot’ air defense system, which is effective in intercepting Russian ballistic missiles. Russia has intensified its attacks on Kyiv in the past seven days.
