Police in Pokhara have arrested two operators of ‘Oasis Tourism International’ on charges of swindling money from the public by promising foreign trips. The arrested individuals are 26-year-old Vivek Regmi from Kanchanpur Municipality-12 in Saptari and Mohammad Yaser from Karnataka, India.
The police team, led by DSP Namraj Bhattarai, raided the company’s office in Pokhara-5 Parsyang and took the operators into custody. The police also seized computers and other materials used in the alleged scam.
According to preliminary investigations, the company was registered in the name of a Nepali citizen, but the mastermind behind the operation was found to be an Indian national. The company had been luring customers with cheap packages to destinations such as Dubai, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.
Alleged Scam
The police claim that the company would offer packages ranging from Rs 4 million to Rs 5 million per person and collect the money in advance. Once the full payment was made, the company would shut down, and the operators would flee.
According to DSP Bhattarai, the company would offer various offers and ask customers to pay in installments. During the raid, the police found 15 young women working for the company. They were questioned and handed over to their guardians.
The police are still searching for two other operators involved in the alleged scam, who are currently on the run. Further investigations are underway.
