The Parliamentary Committee on Law, Justice and Human Rights has urged the Home Ministry to create an environment for activists Binu Yadav and Niharika Rajput to meet with the Home Minister.
Committee Chairperson Samiksha Baskota emphasized that any citizen should be able to meet with the minister to present their demands, and the Home Ministry should facilitate the necessary coordination.
This request comes after Yadav and Rajput, also known as ‘Kumari Ama’, were prevented from meeting with the Home Minister on Saturday to discuss their issues. The two activists had been protesting outside the Singh Durbar gate, but were removed by police.
Committee’s Concerns
Chairperson Baskota stated that the committee will work to address various issues, including citizenship, the problems of those displaced by the Upasakot landslide, and the concerns of Yadav and Rajput.
She also expressed concern about the human rights, food, and nutrition of children in the Bal Sudhar Griha (Child Reform Home), and directed the government to improve the situation.
Baskota emphasized that the state has a responsibility to provide nutritious food to children in the reform home, rather than just ordinary food, and that their physical and mental development should be prioritized.
Other Issues
The committee also discussed other public interest issues, including the management of those displaced by the Upasakot landslide, the transfer of the Sapatri jail, and the need for a long-term solution to the problems in the jail.
Regarding the controversy surrounding the song ‘Masternee’, Baskota stated that the artists involved had already apologized and removed the video from their official channel, so no further action was necessary.
The committee also discussed the need to strengthen the judicial process and investigation in Nepal, citing the example of Japan, and emphasizing the importance of scientific and objective evidence collection and preservation.
