Opposition Slams Government’s New Policies

Nepal’s opposition party has slammed the government’s new policies, saying they will not last long if the government continues to ignore the opposition.

Raghuvir Mahaseth, the vice-chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), said that a democratic government should work with the opposition, not ignore or suppress it.

‘A democratic government is one that works with the opposition, not one that ignores or suppresses it,’ Mahaseth said at a program in Janakpur. ‘If the government thinks it can move forward by ignoring or suppressing the opposition, it will not be successful in the long run.’

Mahaseth also criticized the government’s new policies on education, health, and land transactions, saying they would increase the economic burden on the general public. ‘It is not justifiable to increase the economic burden on the public’s basic needs,’ he said.

He also commented on the recent election results in Madhesh Province, saying that the Rashtriya Swatantra Party (RSP) had gained significant public support and should work accordingly. ‘The RSP has received significant public support from Madhesh Province, so it is their responsibility to work according to the public’s expectations,’ he said.

Mahaseth emphasized the importance of the private sector in the country’s economy, saying it was the backbone of the economy and played a crucial role in overall economic development and job creation.

He also warned that the current global economic challenges, including the Iran-Israel conflict and rising inflation, were affecting Nepal and that the government should take them seriously and work to reform the economy.
