Nepal’s Young Doctors Protest Labour Exploitation

Young doctors, interns, and residents in Nepal’s health institutions have staged a protest in Kathmandu’s Maitighar against labour exploitation.

The protest, organised by the ‘Struggle Committee Against Labour Exploitation of Young and Trainee Doctors’, saw participants carrying banners and placards demanding their basic labour rights and a humane work environment.

According to the protesting doctors, interns and residents are being made to work continuously for 24 to 36 hours in the name of ‘training’ and ‘internship’. This, they claim, has a severe impact on their mental and physical health, as well as compromising the quality of patient care.
