A play based on Amar Neupane’s Madan Puraskar-winning book ‘Seto Dharti’ has been drawing large audiences in Nepal, including top leaders and politicians.
The play, which has been running for 51 days, has been extended until 16th Shrawan at the Kantipur Theater in Gaushala. According to the theater’s executive director, Prakash Puril, most shows have been sold out.
Former President Vidya Devi Bhandari, former Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, Prime Minister’s wife Savina Kaphle, Minister for Information and Communications Vikram Thapa, Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadka Prasad Paudel, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobhita Gautam, former ministers Hisila Yami, Surendra Pandey, Gokarna Bista, and Bhunu Bhakta Dhakal, as well as MPs Ganesh Karki and Anushka Shrestha, have all watched the play.
Most viewers have praised the play’s storyline, presentation, and the actors’ performances. The play, directed by Sundar Dhital, will be staged every day except Wednesdays at 4:15 pm and 7:15 pm, and on public holidays at 1:15 pm.
The play tackles deep social issues such as child marriage, child widows, and women’s existence in Nepali society, and has become particularly popular among audiences.
