Nepal’s Ruling Parties Agree to Consult Other Parties in Two Provinces

Nepal’s two major ruling parties, CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre, have agreed to hold further consultations with other political parties in two provinces.

According to a written agreement signed by CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli and CPN-Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Saturday, the parties will hold talks with other parties represented in the provincial assemblies of Gandaki and Madhesh provinces.

Leadership of Five Provinces Already Decided

The agreement follows an earlier understanding between the two parties on the leadership of the remaining five provinces. CPN-UML will lead three provinces, while CPN-Maoist Centre will lead two.

Under the agreement, CPN-UML will lead the provinces of Koshi, Bagmati, and Lumbini, while CPN-Maoist Centre will lead the provinces of Karnali and Sudurpashchim.

The two parties have been holding talks to finalize the power-sharing arrangement in the seven provinces.
