Nepal’s Prime Minister Holds Talks with Private Sector to Boost Economy

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balen Shah has been holding talks with various private sector representatives to boost the country’s economy. Over the past two weeks, he has met with industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and exporters to discuss the challenges they face and potential solutions.

On Friday, the Prime Minister met with representatives from the country’s major export-oriented industries, including the plastic, carpet, and pashmina sectors. The meeting focused on export promotion, policy reforms, and finding solutions to the challenges faced by these industries.

Earlier in the week, the Prime Minister met with representatives from the organic farming sector, who requested that the government establish an international certification agency in Nepal to promote organic farming. They also requested that the government resume providing a 75% subsidy for organic certification, which had been discontinued.

The Prime Minister also met with representatives from the handicrafts sector, who expressed their commitment to developing and promoting handicrafts in Nepal. The Prime Minister assured them that the government is committed to supporting the handicrafts industry through policies and programs.

Textile Industry

Last Tuesday, the Prime Minister met with representatives from the textile industry, who discussed the current state of the industry, the challenges it faces, and ways to promote production and exports. The Prime Minister assured them that the government is committed to developing and promoting the textile industry in Nepal.

During the meeting, the industry representatives requested that the government establish a ‘Textile and Clothing Development Council’ to promote the industry. The Prime Minister directed the relevant minister to expedite the process of establishing the council.

The industry representatives also requested that the government provide support to revive the ailing textile industry, which the Prime Minister agreed to. He also directed the Ministry of Industry to take immediate action to revive the industry.

The Prime Minister also instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to work on signing free trade agreements (FTAs) and attracting foreign investment (FDI) to promote the textile industry. He also directed the ministry to resolve the issue of testing certification, which has been a major hurdle for the industry.
