Nepal’s Leftist Parties Not Immune to Corruption: Madhav Nepal

Former Prime Minister and co-chairman of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Madhav Kumar Nepal, has stated that leftist parties in Nepal are not immune to the corruption and irregularities prevalent in the country’s politics.

Speaking at a seminar titled ‘Role of Leftist Parties in Current Political Scenario’ in Kathmandu on Friday, Nepal said that leftist forces have also failed to remain untouched by the distortions and irregularities in the country’s politics.

Nepal emphasized the need for a serious introspection of the past role, policies, and actions of the communist movement in order to take it to new heights. He stressed that simply blaming others for the country’s deteriorating politics is not enough and that leftist parties must review their own policies, activities, behavior, and weaknesses in public relations.

‘We need to review the policies we have adopted at various times. It is not necessary to bow down to foreigners as soon as we come to power. We can raise our voice with firmness. Raising our voice does not necessarily mean war, and speaking for the country’s interest does not mean breaking relations,’ Nepal said.

Nepal criticized the tendency of leftist parties to bow down to foreign powers after coming to power, saying it is not necessary. He argued that the country can learn from various international experiences to make its foreign relations more effective.

Nepal also pointed out that leftist parties have also been affected by the distortions and irregularities in Nepal’s politics. He emphasized the need for leftist parties to introspect their past roles and actions.

‘Where did we go wrong? Simply accusing others is not enough,’ Nepal said, ‘We need to introspect our thoughts, policies, activities, behavior, lifestyle, and public relations. We need to discuss openly and frankly.’

Nepal stressed the need for the communist movement to abandon both extremist and surrenderist tendencies and prioritize the country and the people. ‘We don’t need to be overly radical, nor do we need to be surrenderist. If we move forward with the right policy and perspective, keeping the country and the people at the center, we can truly take the communist movement to new heights,’ Nepal said.
