Nepal’s Kukhure Khola Bridge Still Incomplete After Six Years

A bridge under construction over the Kukhure Khola river in Gulmi district has yet to be completed, six years after the project began.

The bridge, which is being built by Aatre-Bhusal-Basnet JV, was supposed to be finished within a year, but only 60% of the work has been completed so far.

Delays and Frustrations

The delay has caused frustration among locals, who have to risk their lives to cross the river, especially during the monsoon season.

"The bridge is not just important for us, but also for the people of nearby villages," said Hom Bahadur Mahat, a local resident.

According to Mahat, the bridge is crucial for the local economy, as it connects the market town of Kukhure Khola to other villages.

Construction Updates

The construction company has been working on the bridge’s approach road, but the pace of work is still slow, according to locals.

The sub-engineer at the Road Infrastructure Development Office in Tamghas, Gulmi, Lenis Devkota, said that the company has been instructed to complete the remaining work as soon as possible.

However, locals are skeptical about the project’s completion, given the repeated delays and extensions.

"We have been waiting for years, and we are still not sure when the bridge will be completed," said Hira Jisi, another local resident.

Impact on Locals

The delay has affected not only the locals but also students, farmers, and traders who use the bridge regularly.

"The bridge is a lifeline for us, and its completion will make a huge difference in our lives," said Mahat.

If completed, the bridge will provide a safe and easy passage for thousands of people in the area.
