Nepal’s Infrastructure Minister Sunil Lamsal has embarked on an inspection of the Karnali Highway, which connects several districts in the country’s western region.
Minister Lamsal arrived in Surkhet on Friday and began his inspection of the highway the same day. His itinerary includes visiting the districts of Kalikot, Jumla, and Mugu, among others.
According to lawmaker Ramesh Kumar Sapkota, Minister Lamsal will inspect the highway from Surkhet to Jumla, covering a distance of over 230 kilometers. He will also inspect the road connecting Mugu to Nagm, as well as other roads in the region.
Minister Lamsal has previously stated that within the next three years, no roads in Nepal will be in a state of disrepair. He made this claim during a meeting of the House of Representatives on 4 Ashar, 2083, stating that regular maintenance work will be carried out to achieve this goal.
The Karnali Highway, which spans 232 kilometers from Surkhet to Jumla, has been in a deplorable state for years. The road is considered a lifeline for the people of the region, but its condition has been a major concern for locals and authorities alike.
The highway is divided into two sections, with the Surkhet division responsible for 132 kilometers and the Jumla division responsible for 100 kilometers. A 93-kilometer stretch of the road from Jumla to Mugu is also being upgraded, with a detailed project report (DPR) already prepared.
