Nepal’s High Court Clears Over 11,000 Cases in Last Fiscal Year

Nepal’s High Court has cleared 11,468 cases in the last fiscal year (2082/83), according to recent data.

Out of a total of 16,139 cases pending in the court, 11,468 were disposed of. The court has also successfully cleared all cases that were pending for over two years and 18 months. Additionally, there are 353 cases that are over a year old.

Efforts to Clear Backlog

Chief Justice Lal Bahadur Kunwar stated that the judiciary has successfully cleared cases pending for over 18 years as part of its fifth five-year strategic plan. He added that cases related to development, construction, and revenue collection have been given special priority.

In the current fiscal year, the High Court has cleared 740 cases so far, and only 12 cases that are over a year old remain pending.

Performance of Lower Courts

Among the lower courts, Sindhupalchok has cleared 77.4% of its cases, followed by Rasuwa with 75.6%, and the Kathmandu District Court with the lowest clearance rate of 42.3%.
