Education consultancy firms in Nepal have taken to the streets to protest against certain provisions in the new Education Consultancy, Language Teaching and Coaching Class (Operation and Management) Regulations.

The firms, which provide educational consultancy services to students, claim that some of the provisions in the regulations will force them to shut down their businesses.

The Nepal Education Consultancy Business Federation, a joint struggle committee of education consultancy firms, organized a protest rally in Putalisadak, Kathmandu on Friday.

The protesters carried placards that read, ‘Education is a service, not a crime’, ‘Correct the errors in the Education Consultancy Regulations 2083’, and ‘Develop Nepal as an international educational hub’.

Demands for Revision

The federation is demanding that the government revise certain provisions in the regulations, including the requirement for annual renewal of permits and the need for approval from the Ministry of Education for organizing educational fairs or seminars.

They are also demanding that the provision requiring permission from the ministry for organizing programs within their office premises be scrapped.

Rajendra Baral, president of the Nepal Education Consultancy Business Federation, said that the provisions in the regulations have put the entire education consultancy sector at risk, forcing them to take to the streets in protest.
