Nepal Communist Party (NCP) co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the imperialists have used social media addiction to control the Nepali people, just like the Opium Wars in China.
Speaking at the Pushpalal Memorial Centre on Friday, Prachanda said that the imperialists had used opium to control the Chinese people and loot their natural resources.
‘They made the Chinese people addicted to opium and then looted their resources,’ Prachanda said. ‘Now, the same thing is happening in Nepal. The Nepali people are being made addicted to social media, and this is a form of imperialism.’
Prachanda said that the Nepali people were being manipulated through social media algorithms, which was a form of opium. ‘I am not insulting the people, but this is what is happening,’ he said.
Prachanda also said that there was a need to launch an ‘opium war’ in Nepal to free the people from social media addiction. ‘We need to launch a war against social media addiction,’ he said. ‘If we can free the Nepali youth from social media addiction, they will be ready to make sacrifices for the country’s freedom.’
