Ministers from the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist) (CPN-UML) in the Bagmati Province government have tendered their resignations. The ministers were unable to hand over their resignation letters to Chief Minister Indra Bahadur Baniya and instead submitted them to the Chief Minister’s Office.
The CPN-UML has also withdrawn its support to the government. The party’s central committee had directed the ministers to resign. The ministers had planned to meet Chief Minister Baniya to hand over their resignation letters, but since he was not available, they submitted the letters to the office.
The Bagmati Province government had reduced the number of ministries from 14 to 8 at the beginning of the new fiscal year 2083/84. After the restructuring, three ministers were assigned subject-wise responsibilities in a single ministry.
With the CPN-UML’s exit from the government, Chief Minister Baniya’s administration has lost its majority. The CPN-UML and the Nepal Communist Party are preparing to form an alliance in the province.
