Nepali film ‘Gaunthali’ has earned over 1 crore 27 lakh rupees in a single day, according to its producer Suman Giri.
As per the box office report, the film has collected 1 crore 27 lakh rupees by 2 pm on Saturday. The film has seen a high occupancy rate in theaters across the country, especially in Kathmandu and Nepalgunj.
This is a rare feat for a Nepali film, and the producer expects the total earnings for the day to reach 1.5 crore rupees by midnight. The total collection for the first 9 days of its release is expected to reach 6.5 crore rupees.
With positive word of mouth, the film is expected to cross the 10 crore mark in the near future. The producer is hopeful that the film’s earnings will increase on Sunday, which is a public holiday.
However, the official figures and details will be released by the Film Development Board after the weekend.
The social drama film was released in the US on Friday and is being screened in 26 states. The opening day collection from the US is yet to be reported.
