A well-known Nepalese comedian, Narad Khatiwada, has been arrested on charges of scamming Chinese nationals. The 52-year-old comedian was taken into custody by the police on Sunday from his residence in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-10.

According to the police, Khatiwada and three other individuals were involved in the scam, which targeted nine Chinese nationals who were arrested by the Department of Immigration on Ashar 12, 2083. The Chinese nationals were detained in Sane Pa, Lalitpur.

The group, led by Khatiwada, allegedly demanded 72 lakhs rupees from the Chinese nationals in exchange for their release and the retrieval of 15 passports that were under the department’s control. The Chinese nationals had already paid 9 lakhs rupees, but when they were not released, they reported the incident to the police.

Based on the information received, a police team arrested the three individuals, including Khatiwada, from various locations in Kathmandu. The arrested individuals have been sent to the District Police Office, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu, for further investigation and action.

The other two individuals arrested in connection with the scam are Vikram Bahadur Thapa, 38, from Nakhipot, Lalitpur, and Gopal Kumar Gurung, 59, from Sunaul, Nawalparasi.
