Nepal Urged to Implement ‘Land Pooling’ for Land Management

Nepal’s industries are facing a major challenge due to the lack of a stable energy supply, with many factories being forced to operate using generators. The Nepal Chamber of Commerce has suggested that the government implement a ‘land pooling’ model to address the issue of land management for industrial development.

According to Anjan Shrestha, president of the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, the government should adopt a scientific approach to land management, where a certain area of land is acquired for a project and the remaining land is returned to the owners with fair compensation. This approach would help to resolve disputes over land acquisition.

Shrestha also expressed concerns over the lack of a stable energy supply in the country, stating that Nepal is rich in natural resources but has failed to utilize them properly. He emphasized the need for a parallel plan for energy production and transmission to ensure the country’s economic development.

The Chamber of Commerce has also criticized the government’s decision to impose ‘undeclared load shedding’ on industries, which has resulted in many factories being forced to close. Shrestha argued that this has had a negative impact on the country’s economy and has affected the competitiveness of Nepalese industries in the global market.
