Nepal’s Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation has announced plans to operate 12 strategic transmission lines in the next fiscal year, which begins on July 17.
Energy Minister Viraj Bhatta Shrestha stated that the government aims to prioritize internal electricity consumption, focusing on industries, transportation, agriculture, and household sectors.
The ministry has allocated approximately NPR 8 billion for the development of the energy sector in the upcoming fiscal year.
Minister Shrestha emphasized the importance of cooperation among the government, private sector, media, and other stakeholders to transform the energy sector.
He also highlighted the potential of Nepal’s rivers to contribute to the country’s economic development, not only through electricity generation but also by creating jobs, promoting industries, and enhancing competitiveness.
The minister noted that a single hydropower project can have a significant impact on the social, economic, and educational development of the surrounding area.
Additionally, the ministry plans to export surplus electricity generated during the rainy season to regional markets through inter-country transmission lines.
