Nepal to Ease Export of Locally Made Footwear: PM Shah

Prime Minister Balen Shah has expressed his commitment to simplifying the export of locally produced footwear in Nepal.

During a meeting with the Footwear Manufacturers Association of Nepal (FMAN) at the Prime Minister’s Office on Friday, PM Shah assured the association members that the government would provide necessary support to promote the export of Nepali footwear and create employment opportunities.

He also stated that the government would work in coordination with the three levels of government to provide skill-based training for footwear production and promote Nepali footwear in the market. Additionally, the government would encourage the private sector to participate in the promotion and marketing of Nepali footwear.

Furthermore, PM Shah mentioned that the government would effectively manage the tracking and recording of raw materials imported according to the production capacity of the industry.

Concerns Raised by FMAN

During the meeting, the association members raised concerns about controlling smuggling and illegal trade through various border points, bringing international and national products within the legal framework, controlling the import of low-quality footwear, and implementing mandatory quality testing for imported footwear.

The members also expressed their confidence that the domestic footwear industry could operate at full capacity if the government provided necessary policy support, market protection, and industry-friendly arrangements.

The meeting was attended by FMAN President Suraj Bajracharya, former President Rudra Nyoupane, General Secretary Nirmal Bhattarai, Advisor Kalidas Gautam, and member and parliamentarian Vidushi Rana, among others.
