Nepal has witnessed a significant surge in tourist arrivals, with over 1.2 million visitors in the fiscal year 2082/83. According to the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the majority of tourists came from India, with 311,531 visitors, followed by the United States with 111,325, and China with 109,892.
India has emerged as Nepal’s largest source market, accounting for 25.76% of total arrivals. The NTB has attributed the growth to promotional activities in key source markets, including India and China.
The board has also reported a significant increase in tourist arrivals from other countries, including Bangladesh, the UK, Australia, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Myanmar, Germany, Thailand, Japan, and Malaysia.
The NTB has been actively promoting Nepal’s tourism industry in various international markets, including participation in travel fairs and organizing sales missions. The board has also been working closely with the private sector to promote Nepal as a year-round destination.
According to Hikmat Singh Airee, Acting Chief Executive of the NTB, the growth in tourist arrivals is a clear indication of Nepal’s tourism industry moving towards sustainable growth. He emphasized the need to further strengthen promotional activities in key source markets and explore new markets with high potential.
The NTB has also announced plans to attract high-spending tourists, increase the length of stay, and further strengthen Nepal’s tourism promotion in international markets.
