A total of 792,187 Nepalis left the country for foreign employment in the last fiscal year 2082/83, according to the Department of Foreign Employment.
Among them, 697,096 were male and 95,091 were female. This number is 47,079 less than the previous fiscal year 2081/82, when 839,266 people had obtained labor permits to go abroad.
The department’s statistics show a decline in the number of people going abroad through manpower agencies. Last year, manpower agencies sent 268,990 people abroad, while 128,520 individuals obtained personal labor permits.
In the previous fiscal year, manpower agencies had sent 359,675 people abroad, which is 90,685 less than the previous year. The majority of those who went abroad were employed in the UAE, with 183,580 people, followed by Malaysia with 128,753, Qatar with 121,230, and Saudi Arabia with 123,719.
Other countries with significant numbers of Nepali workers include Kuwait with 43,360, Romania with 33,360, and Japan with 22,266.
