Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has called on the private sector to provide helicopters, drones, and rafting services in preparation for potential monsoon disasters.
The authority has signed agreements with the Nepal Air Service Operators Association, the Nepal Drone Association, and the Nepal Association of Rafting Agencies (NARA) to provide these services free of charge or at minimal cost in the event of a disaster.
According to the agreements, the private sector will provide helicopters, drones, and rafting services for search and rescue operations, relief material transportation, and medical evacuations.
The NDRRMA has also coordinated with the Nepal Army to deploy four helicopters in Kathmandu, Itahari, Bhairahawa, and Surkhet for immediate rescue operations.
The authority has warned of a high risk of floods, landslides, and river-related disasters in 21 districts due to heavy rainfall forecast by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
The agreements with the private sector are part of the NDRRMA’s efforts to strengthen its disaster preparedness and response capabilities.
