A large quantity of controlled medication has been seized from three individuals, including a foreign national, who were arrested after a shootout with police in Kathmandu.
According to the Narcotics Control Bureau, 24,700 capsules of Tapentadol, a controlled substance, were recovered from the suspects.
The arrests were made near the Kuleshwar and Teku bridges, where police initially apprehended two individuals and later took a third person into custody.
The suspects have been identified as 25-year-old Raj Soni, an Indian national, 19-year-old Nikhil Soni from Nepalgunj, and 19-year-old Sofia Magar from Panchpuri, Surkhet.
Shootout Ensues
Police had been tracking the suspects, who were allegedly smuggling controlled medication from India to sell in Kathmandu.
When the suspects attempted to attack the police team during the arrest, a shootout ensued. Initially, warning shots were fired into the air, but police were forced to shoot one of the suspects, Raj Soni, in both legs below the knee to subdue him.
